Man arraigned over shooting incidents

-

A casino manager who had fired several shots in his house and at an apartment was arraigned on Tuesday. The suspect’s attorney, Arjan Ramlakhan, confirmed that the man had been arraigned. The examining judge reportedly has not decided yet whether to extent the suspect’s detention. Ramlakhan also confirmed that the man has been admitted to the Psychiatric Center Suriname (PCS) where he receives treatment from a psychiatrist. The attorney told Times of Suriname that the casino manager never intended on firing at one or more persons. He did not divulge any other details as he is still waiting for the report from the psychiatrist. The proprietor of an apartment complex located along the Verlengde Picassostraat called the police after he had heard several shots being fired. The man told the police that his neighbor from across the street had fired the shots. The suspect had told the proprietor to turn off the lights of his building because they were too bright. He made it clear that if the proprietor failed to comply, he would shoot. The casino manager was still busy talking when he suddenly pulled the trigger several times. The proprietor got down on the ground to avoid being shot and then crawled to safety. “He did not call the police right away. Several hours after the first shooting incident, the suspect fired more shots. That is when the proprietor decided to notify the police,” said the police. When police officers entered the suspect’s house, they found a rifle and a gun. The suspect reportedly does not have a gun permit. He told the district attorney that he does not remember firing his weapon. He also does not remember in which direction the shots were fired.
