Fire Department urges vacation resort visitors to be careful

-

The Fire Department Suriname (KBS) recently made it clear that dangers could pop up at the various vacation resorts and that people who visit these places must therefore be careful. Fire Department Spokesman Olton Pinas told Times of Suriname that visitors of vacation resorts must realize that they are responsible for their own safety. Pinas explained that people must refrain from barbequing in a tent because there is a big chance that something could catch fire. He also pointed out that people must not wear shirts with long sleeves when they barbeque meat because the shirt could catch fire. “Do not jump in dark water. Do not use your phone when sitting near the water but keep an eye on the children instead. Please comply with the traffic rules and regulations when you leave the vacation resorts. Do not get behind the wheel if you are under the influence of alcohol and do not drive fast.” Two weeks ago the proprietors of 27 vacation resorts located throughout the Para District received the approval of District Commissioner Armand Jurel to open for business. All of these vacation resorts which were screened by inspectors have been deemed capable of guaranteeing the safety of visitors. A press release from the National Information Institute (NII) indicated that all of the vacation resorts that are given the green light have lifeguards who wear a uniform and who have been given special training. They also have First Aid (EHBO) Stations and wooden posts in the water to indicate how deep the water is.
