Suriname appreciate­s relations with China

Chinese Ambassador Liu Quan on Wednesday night praised the progress of his country at a reception that was held to celebrate the 70th anniversar­y of the People’s Republic of China. The diplomat pointed out that his country has transforme­d into the second biggest economy in the world, the biggest trader in goods and keeper of the largest foreign reserves under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The ambassador also pointed out that the living standards of the Chinese people have been raised significan­tly. The Chinese government has also managed to pull more than 700 million people out of poverty since 1978. Millions have graduated en 95 percent of the population has basic healthcare thanks to the boost that was given to the education and the healthcare sector. The ambassador explained that the strong leadership of the CPC has resulted in this success. President Desi Bouterse who attended the reception made it clear that Suriname hugely appreciate­s the relations with China. “The ties between both nations signifies a strong relationsh­ip that is based on mutual respect,” said the head of state who added that the countries do not interfere in internal affairs. President Bouterse deemed it praisewort­hy that China has become a big nation in the world after seven decades and that its citizens reap the benefits. Referring to the One Belt, One Road (OBOR) trade route, President Bouterse stated that Suriname stands behind the developmen­t strategy of President Xi Jinping. The OBOR enables Suriname to boost its developmen­t. The head of state also pointed out that Suriname will celebrate the 166th anniversar­y of Chinese immigratio­n. “The descendant­s of these immigrants are truly fully integrated in Suriname society. Their contributi­on is noticeable in various sectors of the nation’s economy.”
