Government sends teachers to Marowijne

-

Acting Education, Science and Culture (Minowc) Minister, Andre Misiekaba, on Monday pointed out that the problem would be a thing of the past on January 15. The challenge is to get Spanish teachers to the district. “Spanish is another problem,” said Minister Misiekaba who added that the housing issue must be addressed before teachers can be accommodated. There are reportedly 8 teacher’s houses at Moengo but the contractor refused to hand over the keys to these houses because the government still had to pay him the rest of the money. “Meanwhile that has been taken care of so the houses will become available this week. It is expected that a Spanish teacher will also become available. Minowc is busy addressing the issue,” said Minister Misiekaba. The announcements were made after MP Marinus Bee (ABOP) had informed parliament of the problems.

MP Krishna Mathoera (VHP) also asked parliament to address the current crime wave. She claimed that the government has failed to give information and to take firm action against the dangerous criminals. “I have asked several questions about security but the government has not answered a single question,” said MP Mathoera who referred to the double homicide that took place in the Saramacca District as an example. “Several bodies were found. There have also been several robberies. I find this very serious.”
