Entrepreneur robbed of thousands of US dollars

-

An entrepreneur on Tuesday was robbed of more than $100,000 along the Gonggrijpstraat. RS is the same entrepreneur who was robbed by Romano Meriba’s gang on the Twee Kinderenweg on November 9, 2015. This time the victim was robbed by three armed robbers. The perpetrators reportedly shot at the victim’s car and the car of a passersby before robbing a taxi driver of his car.

The entrepreneur had withdrawn the money from the bank located along the Anamoestraat before going to his next destination. While he was driving in the Anamoestraat, he was suddenly cut off by a grey car. Three robbers exited the vehicle and aimed their guns at him while taking his money bag. They then fled in the direction of the Flamingostraat. The victim went after them but lost control over the steering wheel while making a turn and trying to avoid ramming another car. The victim’s car rammed a wooden utility pole which broke in half. The robbers opened fire at the victim’s car before going in the Blaasmanstraat and losing control over the steering wheel. They rammed another car before exiting the getaway vehicle and aiming their guns at a car that approached them. The driver did not pull over but hit the gas pedal to flee the scene. The criminals also shot at that car. The driver reportedly notified the police of the shooting incident. A taxi driver who happened to be passing by was pulled over by the robbers. He was pulled out of his car at gunpoint. The suspects then fled the scene in the taxi driver’s car. The stolen car was found at the corner of the Narainastraat and the Twee Kinderenweg. Sources told Times of Suriname that some money fell on the street during the armed robbery. Several bystanders grabbed what they could while others gave the bills that they had picked up back to the entrepreneur.

An eyewitness told Times of Suriname that he was sitting in a bar when he witness the armed robbery. “I did not dare to get too close because shots were being fired. I saw the three robbers who committed the robbery.” The perpetrators are still at large.
