Hundreds access free eyeclinic

The George Subraj Foundation in collaboration with the Georgetown Public Hospital has hosted a series of eyeclinics throughout the country, giving Guyanese the opportunity to access free eyetesting and receive free eyewear.

Richard B. Mahase, former Guyanese Journalist and PRO for the foundation, is also one of the coordinators for the eye clinics.

Friday was the Skeldon, Line Path, Corentyne leg of the medical outreach with hundreds of persons showing up to access the free service.

George Subraj, founder of the NGO, passed away in 2016. He was born in Guyana but lived and started the foundation in New York. Since his passing, members of the foundation have continued to execute the philanthropic work he started. According to Mahase, Skeldon, Line Path was their 10th eye clinic outreach. They visited with a team from GPHC and conducted several tests including cataract, glaucoma, and visual. They also distributed sunglasses and reading glasses. He added that the most common issue detected was distance reading and sunlight. He expressed appreciation on behalf of the foundation to those who utilised their services.

Mahase mentioned that those who were assisted have given great response. He expressed to them that because of the free service, they saved thousands of dollars. There were one Optometrist, three nurses and other medical assistants at the location Friday to tend to over 300 persons.
