Alibaba and SCUA donate PPE
Alibaba, the online shopping company in China, on Monday donated a batch of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Health Ministry via the Chinese embassy in Suriname. But Alibaba was not the only organization that made a donation. The Surinamese Chinese United Association (SCUA) which is located in Suriname also donated a batch of PPE. Reports indicate that 2 ventilators, thirty thousand surgical masks and two thousand COVID19 tests were donated to contain the spread of COVID19 in Suriname. China’s ambassador to Suriname, Liu Quan, pointed out that he has observed the minister of Health and that he has concluded that “he is doing a good job fighting the novel coronavirus, COVID19.” “The friendly ties between China and Suriname is one of reciprocity. Suriname supported China in the fight against the novel coronavirus so the Chinese government is doing the same. The Chinese diplomat pointed out that China and Suriname stand united in the fight against the virus and that their relation is based on mutual trust and support. He also pointed out that he wanted to show his gratitude and solidarity with this gesture. The chairman of the SCUA, Li Xue, also expressed gratitude for the Suriname’s support to China in the fight against COVID19. “It is our turn as Surinamese Chinese to contribute to the fight against the virus.” The donation of the SCUA consists of 9,500 surgical masks and 50 coveralls. Health Minister Antoine Elias thanked the Chinese government and the Chinese community in Suriname for their support in the fight against COVID19.
