Education Ministry yet to decide how to conclude school year

-

The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture has not decided yet how it wants to conclude the school year 2019-2020. “Let’s organize the final exams on all levels as planned but at a later time so that the school year is extended. We could also conclude the school year without final exams or we could start the school year sooner so in mid August. These are the options that we are considering but we still have not made a final decision,” said Education Minister

Lilian Ferrier.

The minister pointed out that the president had announced that all exam classes on all levels should start on June 1. “But it is still not clear if this is logistically feasible . We have about 11,000 exam candidates on GLO level and more than 11,000 on VOJ level. How are we supposed to accommodate these students while complying with the COVID-19 measures? We are doing our best to come up with a solution,” said Minister Ferrier. The minister pointed out that all the students from the other grades of all the different levels of education will most likely be placed in the next grade. Additional lesson packages will be provided to students to fill the education gaps that are detected. “Look at what happened in 1973 when the schools were closed for 4 months. The students were put in the next grade and the teachers gave them additional lessons. We are also considering this option,” said Minister Ferrier.
