Chan Santokhi content with the will of the people

-

Chandrikapersad Santokhi, chairman of the VHP, on Monday night indicated that he was content with the way the people had expressed their will on Election Day, May 25. He and other high ranking officials of the party gathered in the VHP headquarters known as The Elephant to receive information regarding the latest election results. Ram Sardjoe, former chairman of the VHP, pointed out that patience would be required in the coming days because the final result would take a few days. It will also take a while for the Independent Election Bureau (OKB) to declare the elections binding because it must process official complaints that have been presented by several political parties. The OKB will process the complaints one by one before making a decision about declaring the elections binding. The chairwoman at the Independent Election Bureau (OKB), Jennifer van DijkSilos, recently concluded that these elections were the most poorly organized ever in the history of Suriname and that she blamed the Ministry of Home Affairs (Biza) for this. “It was a day filled with calamities which were the result of the sloppy preparations. I am extremely disappointed because they worked at an amateur level and so you can see the result of that.” Based on all the complaints that the OKB has received the chairwoman also concluded that many polling stations started late because they had not received the material on time.
