ABOP willing to discuss joint venture with VHP

-

Ronnie Brunswijk, chairman of the ABOP, is not discontent with the preliminary results of the elections. The unofficial reports and statistics indicate that ABOP has raked in seven parliamentary seats. This means that the party has won two additional seats this time. In 2015 the ABOP raked in five parliamentary seats. This time the ABOP wants to be part of the coalition because the opposition seats are no longer an option for the party. Brunswijk has therefore indicated that he is willing to work with the VHP which-according to the preliminary results- has twenty parliamentary seats. “I do not know who else will join but I want to be a part of it,” said Brunswijk who added that the party had aimed at winning at least ten parliamentary seats in order to stand strong during negotiations aimed at forming a coalition. The chairman of the ABOP hopes that the party will have more parliamentary seats after all the votes have been counted. Brunswijk made it clear that working with the NDP whichaccording to the preliminary results- has dropped from 26 to 16 seats is out of the question. The ball is currently in the VHP’s court to take the initiative. The chairman of the VHP, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, has not mentioned a possible joint venture with either the VHP or the NDP. His first response to the preliminary results was that the NDP no longer has the support of the majority of the people. “The people have rejected the NDP!”
