Curfew does not apply to MPs

-

The curfew reportedly does not apply to everybody because the presidential decree of June 12 indicates that members of parliament can move freely in public and that they do not need to apply for a permission letter. The gathering ban also does not apply to the MPs. “It is forbidden to participate in a group of more than 5 people on the public road or in public parks or yards or closed spaces, sports facilities or vacation resorts from June 1 until June 22.” The ban does not apply to legislators, government officials and people from the healthcare sector, armed forces and essential services as long as they stick to social distancing. The government’s crisis team deemed the exemption necessary so that the government can keep running the country. At least one legislator reportedly abused her position. On April 22 MP Aida Nading (NDP) was pulled over by the police during curfew. There were 13 other people with her in a vehicle. The legislator pulled out her permission letter and explained to the police officers that she and all the other people had the right to be on their way. A call from police officials enabled MP Nading and her companions to leave. The presidential decree from June 12 gives legislators the right to move freely during the lockdown without having to show any papers.
