Cuban doctors deployed at COVID-19 drive-through testing sites

-

Cuban doctors were deployed at the COVID-19 drive-through and walkthrough testing sites of the Public Health Bureau (BOG) this week. “Four doctors were assigned to various testing sites located throughout ParamariboNorth,” said epidemiologist Radjesh Ori who added that these physicians were deployed because they speak Spanish and Portuguese fluently. There are many residents in Paramaribo-North who speak these languages and the BOG also wanted to reach these people and especially the group that comes from neighboring Brazil. “When you explain to people what the importance is of getting tested they feel more at ease,” said the epidemiologist who added that the foreign doctors were only deployed in ParamariboNorth.

Ori pointed out that he has noticed that people are gradually losing their fear of getting tested for COVID-19. On Wednesday there were 319 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 168 active cases. The virus has reportedly claimed 10 lives in Suriname. 142 people have been cured while 392 are in state quarantine.
