Suriname barely has any income

-

Due to the fact that Suriname barely has any income the payment of salaries is under tremendous pressure. “Our criticism which we expressed prior to the elections has become a reality”, said MP Asiskumar Gajadien, leader of the VHP fraction in parliament. He claimed that the new government is literally taking over a bankruptcy. The financial commission of the coalition has already commenced talks with financial institutes in order to get their cooperation with covering the wages of state employees at the end of July. The new government which is led by VHP chairman Chandrikapersad Santokhi will come into office mid July. The financial institutes have already expressed that they are willing to support the new government which has their confidence. “The salaries for June were not guaranteed. The salaries and vacation pay for July are still in the red zone. We are working with the financial sector to get things done”, said Gajadien who made it clear that the government currently has very little income while it has to pay off foreign loans. “Even the income from the oil sector has been mortgaged. There is a lot of work that must be done”, said the leader of the VHP fraction. Gajadien and his fellow fraction member Krishna Mathoera both pointed out that addressing the financial crisis is the VHP-led government’s number one priority. The new government is finalizing its policy which has been formulated with the input of from coalition partners ABOP, NPS and PL. “We promised the nation that we would boost development. We will stick to our commitments.”
