Military Police intercept contraband: Suspect pays fine

An entreprene­ur on Thursday was caught redhanded in the Nickerie District when he was about to smuggle food products, drinks, bread and other goods to neighborin­g Guyana. The Military Police arrested him before handing him over to the local police. The man who is being suspected of having committed an economic offense opted to settle the matter outofcourt by paying a fine of SRD 85,000 on Friday. The suspect was released from police custody after he had paid the fine. His attorney, Maureen Nibte, confirmed that the matter was settled out of court. Guyana where he also has a business. He wanted to sell the goods again but was caught on the shore of the Corantijn River.
