Mi­li­ta­ry Po­li­ce in­ter­cept con­tra­band: Sus­pect pays fi­ne

An en­tre­pre­neur on Thurs­day was caught red­hand­ed in the Nic­ke­rie Dis­trict when he was about to smug­gle food pro­ducts, drinks, bread and other goods to neigh­bo­ring Gu­y­a­na. The Mi­li­ta­ry Po­li­ce ar­re­sted him be­fo­re han­ding him over to the lo­cal po­li­ce. The man who is being sus­pec­ted of ha­ving com­mit­ted an eco­no­mic of­fen­se op­ted to sett­le the mat­ter out­of­court by paying a fi­ne of SRD 85,000 on Fri­day. The sus­pect was re­lea­sed from po­li­ce cus­to­dy af­ter he had paid the fi­ne. His at­tor­ney, Mau­reen Nib­te, con­fir­med that the mat­ter was sett­led out of court. Gu­y­a­na whe­re he al­so has a bu­si­ness. He wan­ted to sell the goods again but was caught on the sho­re of the Co­ran­tijn Ri­ver.
