Special visa for 65yearold people with Surinamese roots
The Foreign Affairs Ministry recently announced that as of July 1 foreigners with Surinamese roots who have reached the age of 65 and who were born in Suriname but who have another nationality besides the Surinamese nationality are eligible for a special visa.
The special visa rule will also apply to the husband or wife of the people with Surinamese roots and who wish to travel to Suriname to visit relatives or to spend their vacation here as tourists.
The introduction of the special visa for 65yearold people with Surinamese roots is part of the plans aimed at facilitating Surinamese expats and making it easier for people to visit Suriname. The issuing of the special visa will also enable the Surinamese diaspora to make a significant contribution to the sustainable development of Suriname with their expertise. The issuing of the special visa had been announced by the president of the Republic of Suriname during his annual speech.
People can apply for a special visa at the nearest representative of the Republic of Suriname in foreign countries and the application must be filed 3 days prior to the day of departure. The application must have the following attachments: a copy of the bio page of the valid passport, a copy of the flight schedule and a copy of the marriage certificate for the husband/ wife who was not born in Suriname. Applicants must pay an administration fee of € 20 or $ 20.
