Strong wind gusts in Nickerie

-

Firefighters in the Nickerie District were deployed after strong wind gusts had been reported in Nieuw Nickerie and Groot Henar. Fire Department Spokesman Olton Pinas told Times of Suriname that the calls came in around 8:15. Three wooden houses were hit by the strong wind gusts in Nieuw Nickerie. The roof of one of these houses was blown away so firefighters put a tarp on the house. Several zinc sheets were blown off the two other houses. Firefighters retrieved the zinc sheets and nailed them back on the roof. Strong wind gusts had hit two houses in Groot Henar. One of the houses lost a few zinc sheets while half of the roof of the other house was blown away before ending up on the house of the neighbors. A mast of the Telecommunications Company Suriname (Telesur) was also damaged by the strong wind gusts. The firefighters reported seeing a few trees that had been tipped over. No injuries were reported.
