SLM director says nothing wrong with contracts

-

Surinam Airways’ General Director Radjesh Radjkoemar recently contradicted reports that the national carrier has closed deals that put the company in a tight position. He deemd it regrettable that certain reports are being published because “they damage the integrity of the SLM.” “it is very unfortunate that our names (Radjkoemar and Rachel KolfDeira, financial director) have been mentioned. We are well aware of the sacrifices that you are making right now and we therfore can’t put individual interests first. We know our responsibility and you can be assured that we will not stick the SLM with choke contracts,” said the executives in a memo to the SLM workers. Radjkoemar became the company’s director in September 2019. “I am an aviation expert and for now I will stay with the company,” Radjkoemar told Times of Suriname. The SLM on Wednesday was given the green light to keep flying on the Paramaribo-Georgetown-New York route. The SLM will carry out flights twice a week on this route as soon as international commercial flights can be resumed. “It is not profitable to fly from Paramaribo straight to New York. JFK is the hometown of the Guyanese and fits in the SLM’s strategy to establish a hub in Guyana to North America.”
