“Brunswijk as VP is the will of the people”

-

Steven Alfaisi, chairman of DOE, recently pointed out that the chair dance for top government positions is part of the political culture when it comes to certain political parties and that this has happened time and time again throughout history. It is the choice of the people to send these parties to the center of power every time. “That is just our political reality. And we are used to it in Suriname.

That is how it has always been,” said Alfaisie who added that the same goes for all the criticism against Ronnie Brunswijk, the next VP of Suriname. The people have given Ronnie Brunswijk and his political party, ABOP, enough seats to want to become the next VP of the country. If the voters wanted something else, they should have voted differently. The people did not vote based on moral ethical principles. That is why they are once again stuck with the old culture of favoritism and self interest. We have a constitution and an election system that ban people from filling positions due to moral ethical reasons. But none of the previous governments have dared to change our constitution or election system because it is often in the interest of the coalition or coalition party or some of them. They will never be eager to change it,” said Alfaisi who added that DOE will not protest against Ronnie Brunswijk as VP because the people have decided. He explained that the people should have voted for a party such as DOE if they wanted actual change based on morals and ethics.
