More than 100 COVID-19 cases in 5 days

More than 100 new COVID19 cases were confirmed in Suriname within 5 days. On July 10 there were 699 confirmed COVID19 cases and on Wednesday afternoon there were 834. Sources told Times of Suriname that most of these cases originate from the active clusters in the eastern part of Suriname, Moengo/ Albina and the gold mining sector. Health officials are still trying to identify the source of a small number of new infections.

On Wednesday afternoon 243 of the 834 confirmed cases were labeled as active cases. 573 people have been cured while 18 have died as a result of the novel coronaviru­s. 5 COVID19 patients are currently recovering at one of the nation’s intensive care units (ICUs). 239 people are in quarantine while 10 are labeled Lost To Follow Up (LTFU).
