Police force warns about new pyramid scheme

-

The Police Force Suriname (KPS) recently issued a warning about the reappearance of a pyramid scheme. The new pyramid scheme is called ‘Wallet.’ Participants are urged to invest SRD 400 with the promise of getting back 4 times their investments from the ‘suitcase owner’ after a short time. According to the press release from the police, the suitcase owner is a person in Suriname who pays investors 4 times their investment after they have convinced 3 to 4 people to also make an investment. “Citizens are being warned not to participate in these types of games which cause huge financial losses. It has not been ruled out that a crime organization is behind this pyramid scheme. It would seem that the criminals come up with other names for this pyramid scheme just to lure victims. In the past they used the names Xtrade and Cataleya,” said the KPS. The police explained that the players/participants/investors never get back their money or interest from the suitcase owner who can’t be reached after the money has been invested. Several years ago a large number of countrymen were conned out of their money as a result of pyramid schemes. The police hope that “history will not repeat itself on large scale in Suriname.”
