Security has been beefed up at embassy in Guyana

“The security at the embassy building of Suriname in Queenstown, Guyana was beefed up after an arson attempt,” Foreign Affairs, Internatio­nal Business and Developmen­t Cooperatio­n Minister Albert Ramdin told the press on Thursday. Reports indicate that there were two arson attempts embassy this week.

Minister Ramdin pointed out that the second attempt was made on Wednesday morning. The preliminar­y police report indicates that Molotov cocktails were thrown at the building where the Surinamese embassy is located. “The

Surinamese government has expressed its concerns to Guyana.” The Molotov cocktails were discovered by a security guard. The building has been scorched slightly. The Foreign Affairs minister explained that the motive behind these acts is still unclear. The Guyanese police are currently investigat­ing this case. Minister Ramdin assured the nation that the embassy employees are safe. The embassy is located at the corner of Anira Street and New Garden Streets in Queenstown, Georgetown.
