Government holds talks with unions
The government on Friday met with union officials from Ravaksur, C-47, FAL, the Surinamese Police Union, The Teachers’ Association, the Alliance for Teachers in Suriname (ALS), the Federation of Organizations of Teachers in Suriname (FOLS) and the Customs’ Union. These consultations are a resumption of the hearings that had been initiated. The Santokhi/Brunswijk administration is convinced that it can formulate a realistic policy and an effective implementation by lending an ear to the nation.
The government explained that the unions will play an important role in addressing the problems that the government came across after the transition of power. The government and the unions agreed to meet again soon and to exchange ideas regarding short term solutions which will be vital in the urgency phase.
