AG issues arrest warrant for Hoefdraad
The attorney general has issued a warrant for the arrest of Gillmore Andre Hoefdraad, former minister of Finance. The suspect is being suspected of having broken the anti corruption law, the bank law, the money laundering law, embezzlement and swindling. According to the police, the last known address of Hoefdraad who was born on December 17, 1962 in Paramaribo is Eusieweg number 40 in Paramaribo. People with information regarding the whereabouts of this suspect are being asked to dial 08963827, 08563597, the Command Center at 115 or the nearest police station. Hoefdraad responded to the arrest warrant by filing a lawsuit against the state because he claims that the state failed to follow the proper procedure before stripping him of his immunity. The lawsuit was filed by his attorneys Irene Lalji, Frank Truideman and Murwin Dubois. The defense attorneys explained that when parliament handled the attorney general’s second request to prosecute Hoefdraad, it failed to question him before granting the request. A decision was made in parliament even though none of the legislators had been given the opportunity to share their thoughts on the matter. Only the leaders of the faction were given the floor even though they had not been authorized to speak on behalf of all the legislators. The attorneys have asked the judge to handle the lawsuit as soon as possible.
