2,559 COVID-19 cases and counting... Santokhi expresses concern

-

“The numbers that keep rising tell us that we still do not have the desired circumstances. We notice that most of the infections take place in the south of Paramaribo and north of Wanica. We also see that it is spreading to the other resorts and districts. Despite our pleas parties and various gatherings are being organized even though it is known that such situations boost the spread of COVID-19. All of this tells us that we are not being careful,” said President Chandrikapersad

Santokhi when he addressed the nation on Monday night. “These past two weeks the government announced several measures in response to the alarming COVID-19 situation. The measures are necessary to turn the tide. We have noticed that some of you are complying with the measures. Sadly many of you did not do so which is why the number has risen. The numbers paint a bleak picture and keep us on our toes,” said the head of state who added that we can’t return to normalization without certain conditions. “We must stick to the mandatory measures such as wearing a face mask, maintaining a physical distance of 1.5 meters and disinfecting our hands. I urge you not to lose heart. While we are tired, the virus is not tired but keeps spreading. It keeps spreading because we do not stick to the measures in an optimal manner.” The COVID-19 website on August 11 indicated that there are 2,559 COVID-19 cases in Suriname.
