COVID-19 patients admitted to special tent at RZW
The Regional Hospital Wanica (RZW) on Tuesday started admitting COVID-19 patients in its additional facility that has been constructed in the parking lot. Hospital officials deemed it necessary to expand the facilities especially given the fact that the number of COVID-19 cases keeps rising on a daily basis.
RZW Healthcare director Fauzia Poese announced that the first COVID19 patient was accommodated in the special isolation tent. She pointed out that the special isolation tent has a recreational room, a bathroom, toilets and dining space. The tent is intended for patients with mild symptoms of the novel coronavirus who do not need hospital care. 98 people can be accommodated in the special isolation tent. Infectologist Soradj Harkisoen on Tuesday expressed concern regarding the fact that the nation is running out of COVID-19 facilities. “The number of positive cases is gradually rising. In the weekend there was a record number of 117 people who had tested positive,” said Harkisoen. The COVID-19 website on Tuesday indicated that there are 2,653 COVID-19 cases in Suriname. The novel coronavirus has already claimed 39 lives.
