Bouterse wants VHP and ABOP to stick to agreement with NDP

-

“Chandrikapersad Santokhi, chairman of the Progressive Reform Party (VHP), and Ronnie Brunswijk, chairman of the General Liberation and Development Party (ABOP), must sign the agreement with the National Democratic Party (NDP). Arrangements were reached based on trust during the transition from the old administration to the new one. It is expected that the two coalition leaders will stick to the arrangements that they had come to with the NDP.” This was the clear message that the chairman of the NDP who is also the former president, Desi Bouterse, sent to Santokhi and Brunswijk via an online mass meeting that was broadcast live on Saturday night. Bouterse explained that there is a draft agreement which clearly states that the NDP will not be excluded from participating in the government via various government posts. But Bouterse pointed out that he has noticed a change in the attitude of Santokhi who is currently the president and Brunswijk who is currently the vice president. Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Collaboration Minister Albert Ramdin would act as vocal point for the execution of the draft agreement which is still being drawn up. “I hope that he has not said abroad that there are no agreements with the previous administration. If he has said so, I will be forced to say that he is lying,” said the NDP chairman on Saturday night.
