MP Sham Binda: “We must not be afraid of our own people”

-

MP Sham Binda (VHP) does not approve of the fact that government officials drive around while being escorted by many cars and bodyguards. He finds it silly. “It’s ridiculous. Why does one need that many bodyguards? One could have one driver and one bodyguard,” said MP Binda who added that the government must set an example when it comes to austerity measures. “The government must not be afraid of its own people.” Binda explained that the president is a man of the people because they handed him the presidency. He pointed out that the president must take a look in the mirror to know what the people want exactly. “There are many comments on social media and I am certain that the policymakers also read the comments. They must ask themselves if they are on the right track. The government must evaluate the policymakers. It is unacceptable for the people to live in poverty while you keep spending on parties. I think that this is just the beginning which is why people are still in a party mood. I think that people must handle the situation in Suriname more seriously.” The legislator from the VHP is disappointed about the many positions for one person because “there are enough people to fill such positions.” “This must not become a family and friends administration because that is the impression that is being created. People without the necessary expertise are being put on many boards of directors. “Each member of the board of directors must be an expert. They also are not cutting the expenditures when it comes to the number of members on a board of directors. They could for example reduce the number of members on each board of directors. It seems more like ‘we’ are busy accommodating people which is now how things are supposed to go because we promised that we would take care of it and that Suriname would change but it seems that some things from the previous government are being copied.”
