Bands and DJs fully booked until next year

-

All of the popular bands and DJs in Suriname are fully booked for the remaining days of 2020 and the first half of 2021. They are scheduled to give performances at outdoor events, private parties and other activities.

The health authorities have finally introduced the safety protocols for outdoor events. The organizers of shows and events are busy filing permit requests at their local District Commissioner’s Office. “All the private parties and events from March 2020 and the other months have been moved to the end of this year or the first half of next year so we are fully booked. We as artists and entertainers must also get used to the new normal but we are happy that we can finally get back on stage. We have been ‘locked up’ for too long and all of us deserve to go to a party or an event at the end of the year,” said Ashna Changoer, manager of The Juniors. Changoer explained that the bands must also meet a number of requirements when they want to give a performance. “The stage must be bigger because the musicians must keep a distance of 1.5 to 2 meters, good ventilation, hand sanitizers and surgical masks must be at hand.

There must be a long distance between the stage and the guest at each event. Each singer has his or her microphone and the equipment and musical instruments must be disinfected after being used. These are just some of the measures that we must stick to every time,” said Changoer. Event organizer Jivi Malhoe from Anything International

pointed out that the nation’s entertainment sector has been without any income for the past 10mmonths. “There are finally protocols so that we can organize adjusted or small outdoor events. That is a huge relief and it gives us hope. It has not been an easy period for us and many of us had difficulty surviving.

Some of had huge debts and suffered huge losses. Let us hope that we can organize beautiful events for the community before the end of the year so that the entertainment sector can blossom a bit again,” said Malhoe who added that “it will be a huge challenge to organize each event in accordance with all of the requirements and rules.”
