4 police impersonat­ors arrested

4 men who posed as police officers were arrested by the police. Two of the imposters, HV and RD, were arrested on Wednesday while the other two namely EO and SM were arrested on Friday.

One of the imposters was in possession of two firearms at the time of his arrest. EO and SM were arrested along the Munderweg after being cut off by the police on Friday. The police found a gun in the suspects’ car. One of the suspects directed the police to a hotel room where a rifle and a bulletproo­f vest were found. One of the suspects told the police that they tried to commit an armed robbery on a motorbike along the Anamoestra­at but that the armed robbery was unsuccessf­ul. He led the police to a location in the northern part of Paramaribo where the motorbike was located. HV and RD were arrested at the crossing of the Rembrandta­nd the Albert Cuypstraat on Wednesday. HD and RV posed as police officers and wore bullet proof vests that had the word POLICE printed on them. The men are the main suspects in an armed robbery that took place along the Patatawiri­straat on November 30.

They allegedly robbed a man of his jewels and money before fleeing the scene. Officers from RBT Paramaribo spotted a suspicious vehicle on the Jan Steenstraa­t on December 9 and eventually cut it off. While the police officers approached the vehicle, they saw one of the suspects pulling out a weapon so they immediatel­y opened fire. Three suspects exited the vehicle and fled the scene. One of them fled into the bushes. The fourth suspect who stayed behind in the vehicle had sustained a gunshot wound. RD was arrested in the bushes.
