Commercial viability of Sloanea-1 yet to be confirmed
ExxonMobil recently announced a hydrocarbon discovery located offshore Suriname. It has found oil and gas at the Sloanea1 exploration well in Block 52. The resource potential of the finding is currently being evaluated. The Sloanea1 exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 4,780 meters with the help of the Maersk Developer rig. The Block 52 is located 75 miles north of Paramaribo, Suriname’s capital city. The block covers approximately 1.2 million acres, wherein water depth varies from 501,100 meters. While ExxonMobil has a 50 percent stake in the block, Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas is the operator and owns the rest of the stakes. Fugro has received a contract award from Petronas Suriname E&P B.V. (PSEPBV), a subsidiary of Petronas, for the provision of positioning services for an exploration programme in Block 52, off the coast of the capital Paramaribo in the GuyanaSuriname Basin.
The 2-year contract involves Fugro’s Starfix® precise positioning solution to help ensure safe and efficient transit, anchoring and drilling activities for the programme’s semisubmersible rig and support vessels.
“Our 40 years of Geo-data knowledge and expertise in the Caribbean and Pacific South American region includes more than 15 years of operational experience in Suriname and 20 years in Trinidad and Tobago. We are pleased to support PSEPBV in their operations through this landmark programme and will continue to work diligently for them, as we have for our other clients in the region, to ensure careful progress on critical energy and infrastructure goals during these challenging times,” said Brian Hottman, Director of Fugro’s Caribbean and Pacific South America Operations.
