Strangelove
The Renaissance once started with the development of printing technology. Today we are experiencing something some scholars and journalists call "the Third Industrial Revolution." Do you think we are going through a period of new Renaissance in fashion today?
What I like is that the consciousness is rising around the world, which is also putting pressure on fashion brands to be more valid to what they really are within themselves. I feel that the values need to change. I am not sure if I and BLK DNM are a part of it. Sometimes, I feel like I live in my own world; I belong more with the music industry than the fashion industry, somehow, or the film industry. The changes have to come from within. The world is starting to become healthier. It’s crucial and necessary.
Would you consider making it to Paris?
I always had an idea to create a couture show for women. The regular fashion shows do not really make any sense, even from a sustainable point of view. I would instead do creative projects like films or photoshoots, ideas, and expressions. We did the Gazette during the BLK DNM time. Actually, when I started J.lindeberg in Stockholm, we had two seamstresses and between four and six amazing patternmakers. We did our first samples in-house, where we had a proper atelier for five years. We were very experimental with the product and worked hard with the fit. It was an incredible experience to stitch up everything in the office, try it on, and then send an entirely constructed sample to the factory instead of working with tech-packs instruction on distance. My ex-wife and I worked for Justine Timberlake and created his collections. We did two shows in New York, and then we stitched up several runway samples together with seamstresses. I did it also in Milano when we did eight shows for J.lindeberg. I have done a lot of fashion shows, but I am not inspired by them right now. If a couture show, then it must be something special. But Paris is one of my favorite cities in the world and I long to go back there with BLK DNM.
