A vehicle is crushed by the 15-metre long boom of a crane which toppled over at a Red Line electric train system construction site run by Italian-Thai Development near Don Muang railway station in Don Muang district of Bangkok. The driver of the crushed vehicle was injured.

A 26-year-old man was arrested early yesterday for allegedly throwing bricks at moving cars near Taksin Bridge in the Thon Buri area, causing damage to six vehicles, police said.

Police at Sam Rae station say motorists complained about a man throwing bricks at cars heading from the bridge toward Charoen Nakhon Road about 2am.

When police arrived at the scene they found five taxis and one BMW sedan with their windscreens damaged sitting by the roadside.

They also found a man, identified as Nitipong Chaisaram, lying near the bridge with several bricks around him.

According t o police, t he man appeared high on a substance. As police tried to detain him for questioning, the man drew a knife and threatened them.

He was overpowered by police who took him to the station.

Mr Nitipong was initially charged with causing damage to other people’s property and carrying a knife in public without proper reason.

Police described the suspect as a homeless man who was sometimes seen sniffing glue.

Sirichai Purisotayo, 48, one of the five taxi drivers whose cars were damaged, said a brick hit his cab as he was taking two foreign passengers to a hotel in the area about 2am.

When he was making a left turn onto Charoen Nakhon Road, something struck the front window.

The passengers told him to continue driving a bit further until it was safe to pull over.

Mr Sirichai said he stopped about 300 metres from the scene and inspected the car for damage. He found a large crack on the windshield.

He said he drove the passengers to the hotel and later dropped by the police station to file a complaint about the attack. That was when he learned about the other victims.
