POLICE CATCH ‘POLITE’ PAIR

-

Two men have been arrested in connection with a “polite” armed robbery spree which targeted multiple 7-Eleven stores on Friday.

Rittikiart Sirichan, 20, and Akkhaphan Khomkham, 19, were apprehended yesterday at a Din Daeng apartment building.

The men are accused of stealing a total of 25,600 baht from seven convenience stores in the early hours of Friday. CCTV footage from some of the stores captured one of the robbers offering a wai to frightened staff as he escaped on a motorcycle.

Officers said they seized a pistol, six rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle and several stolen items from the pair.

Police said the suspects, wearing fullface helmets, took turns to carry out robberies at 7-Eleven outlets in the Sutthisan, Din Daeng, Phaya Thai and Bang Sue areas.

They have been charged with theft, illegal possession of firearms and carrying weapons in public areas without permission.

Police said both men had confessed to the charges and told officers they had carried out the robberies on the spur of the moment. Most of the stolen cash was recovered, the officers added.

One of the suspects reportedly told police he had given a wai to store workers to thank them for not resisting.

Police said both men had appeared intoxicated during their interrogation, and had been taken for drug and alcohol testing.
