Family sues Jenner over crash

A family who suffered serious injuries in a fatal traffic accident involving Caitlyn Jenner earlier this year sued the Olympic gold medalist on Friday.

The Wolf-Milesi family of Malibu sued Ms Jenner in Los Angeles Superior Court for negligence in the February crash, which killed one woman after Ms Jenner rear-ended her car and pushed it into oncoming traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway. A sport utility vehicle driven by Peter Wolf-Milesi struck a car driven by Kim Howe, killing her. The lawsuit states the four members of the Wolf-Milesi family and another occupant of their vehicle sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Ringo Starr’s drums sell for B79m

A drum kit that Ringo Starr used to record some of the Beatles’ early hits has sold for $2.2 million (79 million Thai baht) at an auction to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay.

Julien’s Auctions said Mr Irsay bought the 1963 Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl three-piece drum kit on Friday at a sale in Beverly Hills, California.

The two-day auction included more than 800 items owned by Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Bach.

Starr used the kit in more than 200 performances between May 1963 and February 1964 and on recordings including Can’t Buy Me Love, She Loves You, All My Loving and I Want to Hold Your Hand. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the couple’s Lotus Children Foundation, which focuses on global social welfare issues.

Cocaine found near singer’s body

Minnesota police said on Friday they found cocaine in a tour bus near the lifeless body of Scott Weiland, the award-winning lead singer of popular rock act Stone Temple Pilots. They also arrested Thomas Delton Black — identified by US media as a band member — for drug possession, as the music world paid tribute to what some called a legend of “grunge” music.

Weiland, 48, who also performed with the Velvet Revolver rock group, had admitted in interviews to a long-time struggle with substance abuse. He was pronounced dead on Thursday, but officials have not said what the cause was.

Holmes dips her toes in art

Katie Holmes sings, dances and is even making her directorial debut, but the actress admits she’s not much of an art collector and was eager to explore Art Basel Miami Beach for the first time. Holmes walked the red carpet for a party toasting her Ocean Drive magazine cover at a private home on South Beach on Friday night.

“I really appreciate art,” said Holmes, who said she follows Jose Parla on Instagram and is friends with the photographer who goes by JR. She’s also a fan of Cy Twombly.

“I have a toe in the art world.” She also enjoys painting with Suri, her 9-year-old daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise, but says “it’s just a hobby. We just have fun”.

Holmes was among dozens of celebrities who descended on the prestigious art fair this week, including rocker Lenny Kravitz, who unveiled a photo exhibit, Alicia Keys, Eva Longoria, Ricky Martin and Leonardo DiCaprio. In February, Holmes will star in the upcoming movie Touched With Fire, produced by Spike Lee.

Targeted band returns to Bataclan

The Eagles of Death Metal, whose gig was targeted during terror attacks in Paris last month, will return to the stage today in the French capital with U2, Billboard magazine reported. The California band will join U2 for the Irish rockers’ final song at the AccorHotels Arena, also known as Bercy, Billboard said, in what promises to be a highly emotional moment for both bands and the thousands in the crowd.

Eagles of Death Metal, which was largely unknown until the attacks, will resume its halted European tour in February. Today’s performance will include Eagles of Death Metal co-founder Josh Homme, who rarely tours with the band and was absent during the Nov 13 attack at the Bataclan theatre, where 90 people were killed.

Eagles of Death Metal has already said it wants to be the first to play the Bataclan when it reopens.

U2’s performances today and tomorrow were originally scheduled for Nov 14 and 15, but were postponed after the attacks, which were claimed by the extremist Islamic State group.

Gunmen attacked nearly simultaneously targets across Paris, killing 130 people in total.
