Gaudreau scores hat-trick in overtime as Flames squeeze past stubborn Bruins 5-4

CALGARY: Johnny Gaudreau completed his hat-trick in overtime after Jiri Hudler levelled the game with 1.2 seconds left as the Calgary Flames beat the Boston Bruins 5-4 on Friday.

Gaudreau trailed a two-on-one rush and took a pass from former Bruin Dougie Hamilton in the high slot. He stickhandl­ed in on Tuukka Rask and beat the goaltender with a low shot.

Hudler tapped in a loose puck with Calgary goalie Karri Ramo pulled for an extra skater.

Mark Giordano also scored for the Flames.

Islanders Frans Nielsen and Kyle Okposo scored in the shoot-out to lift New York over the St Louis Blues 2-1.

Mikhail Grabovski tied it early in the third period for the Islanders, and Thomas Greiss, making his third start in four games, stopped 31 shots through overtime. He also denied both St Louis shooters in the tie-breaker.

Kevin Shattenkir­k scored late in the first period and Brian Elliott finished with 24 saves through overtime.

In Edmonton, Alberta, Jordan Eberle scored 45 seconds into overtime and Anders Nilsson made 42 saves to lift the last-place Oilers over the league-leading Dallas Stars 2-1.

The Oilers won their second straight game but remained tied for l ast i n the Pacific Division with Calgary.

Edmonton’s Taylor Hall scored with 5:11 minutes left in the first period, but Mattias Janmark tied it late in the second.

The Anaheim Ducks beat the San Jose Sharks 1-0 after John Gibson made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season, while Florida’s Aleksander Barkov scored in the shootout as the Panthers defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 to extend their winning streak to five games.

In Friday’s other games, Evander Kane scored twice in the third period to lead the Buffalo Sabres over the Arizona Coyotes 5-2, and Matt Read scored 3:24min into overtime as the Philadelph­ia Flyers beat the New Jersey Devils 4-3.
