Ex-mayor faces war crimes trial
KINSHASA: The Democratic Republic of Congo arrested a former Rwandan mayor accused of atrocities perpetrated during that country’s genocide in 1994, the UN said. Congolese authorities should transfer Ladislas Ntaganzwa, a former mayor of Nyakizu commune in the Rwandan prefecture of Butare, to his home country for trial without delay, the UN said on its Mechanism for International Tribunals’ website. Mr Ntaganzwa faces charges brought in the International Criminal Tribunal of genocide and crimes against humanity for the massacre of thousands of ethnic Tutsis in Rwanda in 1994. There are eight other accused related to Rwanda cases that remain at large.
