One can only endorse the sentiment “Santa deserves better”, (Post Bag, Dec 8).

Every December I am appalled by attempts to “spiritualise” Christmas.

Last week I was strolling in my local mall while over the loudspeaker system came Jingle Bells (one of my favourites) sung by a children’s choir.

I was stunned to find that the line “Oh what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh” had been replaced with — “Oh what fun it is to ride on Jesus bir-irth-day”.

I realise Bangkokians have limited experience of transportation in one-horse open sleighs. But is that an excuse for the fundamentalists to pounce?
