Palmieri scores in OT, Devils edge Red Wings 3-2
NEWARK: Kyle Palmieri scored in overtime to give the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.
Palmieri took a lead pass from Lee Stempniak and streaked into the Detroit zone ahead of defenceman Tomas Tatar, skated in on the goal and put a backhander past a sprawled out Jimmy Howard with 39.3 seconds remaining. It extends Palmeiri’s goalscoring streak to four games.
Damon Severson and Sergey Kalinin also scored for the Devils, who rallied after trailing 2-0 in the third period.
Gustav Nyquist and Tatar scored power-play goals in the second period for Detroit and Howard made 35 saves.
In Pittsburgh, Marion Gaborik’s shoot-out goal lifted the Los Angeles Kings to their sixth straight win, 3-2 over the Penguins.
Pittsburgh’s David Perron and the Kings’ Anze Kopitar also scored in the shoot-out.
Jake Muzzin and Tanner Pearson had Los Angeles’ goals in regulation, and Jonathan Quick stopped 40 shots through overtime. Eric Fehr and Evgeni Malkin scored for the Penguins.
Chicago’s Patrick Kane extended his franchise-record points streak to 25 games with a power-play goal and Corey Crawford stopped 25 shots for his third shut-out of the season to lead the Blackhawks over the Winnipeg Jets 2-0.
Jonathan Toews also scored during a man advantage, ending a sevengame goal-scoring drought, as the Blackhawks won for the third time in four contests and beat the Jets in Chicago for the second time this week.
Kane, who entered the NHL’s leading scorer, got his 19th goal midway through the second period to match Sidney Crosby’s 25-game streak, set in 2010-11, for the longest in the league since 1992-93. Kane has 16 goals and 23 assists during his run.
The Edmonton Oilers downed the New York Rangers 7-5, while the Arizona Coyotes beat the Minnesota Wild 2-1 in overtime.
The Carolina Hurricanes trounced the Anaheim Ducks 5-1, and the Dallas Stars beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1.
