Sukhumvit Clean Food delivers deliciousness in less than 300 calories

- Jarupat Buranastidporn

Now, I know it’s Christmastime, and the farthest thing on your mind is eating clean and calorie-counting. Can you really blame us for wanting a good roast and a huge slice of pie? ‘Tis the season, after all, for indulgent meals.

If you’re like me, a sense of guilt soon follows a huge meal. But I’m not one to go on a fast or a diet, and words like “sugar-free” and “low-fat” often have me doubting if clean food is actually edible. But somewhere along the line, delivery companies seem to have found middle ground, where flavour is balanced with healthiness and where emphasis is put on freshness without skimping on ingredient quality.

Sukhumvit Clean Food is relatively new to the delivery meal scene, but has already garnered many loyal customers, mostly office workers who want healthier food but find it difficult to leave their desks.

A variety of meals are available, from rice sets to salads. Every item on the menu is made in-house, using olive oil and low sodium fish sauce with no artificial flavouring or MSG.

Being a fan of spice, I decided to give the Larb salmon (B80) a try. It was an instant hit. The heat was all there, and the traditional trio of sweet, sour and salty was perfectly balanced. Suitable for the Thai palate (or anyone with a love for chillies), it had me gasping for water. Served with roasted pumpkin and riceberry rice, which was cooked well, with a nice firm texture.

For something a little milder, try the Red curry with chicken breast (B60). It’s low-fat, but packs a good punch, with plenty of depth from the home-made chilli paste. The dish is served with riceberry rice.

With every meal kept between 200-300 calories, Sukhumvit Clean Food has changed my idea that “clean food” consists of nothing but kale and carrots, leaving my stomach as empty as my wallet. Food here is affordable, accessible and, best of all, tasty as hell. If this is what clean food is about, sign me up.
