Buriram fail to impress in goalless draw

-

Defending champions Buriram United’s indifferent season continued yesterday as they could only manage a goalless draw against relegation contenders Chainat at home.

Sukhothai, who joined the top flight in March this year, on the other hand, kept their dream run going with a 4-1 hammering of BBCU, the cellar-dwellers.

Buriram, who had mercilessly decimated their opponents en route to their title triumph last year, have been struggling upfront since the start of the season.

Bangkok United edged capital city rivals Bangkok Glass 1-0 through a 22nd-minute Jaycee Okwunwanne goal late on Saturday night to prolong their stay at the top.

SCG Muang Thong United were just one point behind the leaders on 24 following their impressive 3-0 triumph over Chiang Rai United on Saturday.

They are followed by Bangkok Glass and Buriram who both have 21 points apiece from 10 games.

Put ahead in the 22nd minute by Kritsada Hemvipat, Sukhothai upped the momentum of their attacks.

BBCU regained some composure and one of their rare forays into the Sukhothai half resulted in a penalty which Jeoug WooGeun converted in the 39th minute to level the score 1-1.

But there was no stopping Sukhothai’s march up to fifth place as they were put ahead again by Bireme Diouf shortly before the breather.

Sukhothai showed no intention of easing the pressure and Piyachat Srimaruang netted the team’s third in the 62nd minute.

Defender Wichitchai Chuaisrinuan, who came in as a substitute, added his name to the list of scorers as he completed the rout 10 minutes from time.

Suphanburi were 1-0 winners over Army at their home ground, thanks to a Carmelo Gonzalez goal in the 23rd minute.
