Joeyboy gears up for trees

-

Rapper and songwriter Apisit “Joeyboy” Opasaimlikit says his initiative to regrow a forest in Nan is about to get off the ground.

Joeyboy posted five photos on his Facebook on Tuesday showing him attending a meeting at parliament with Nan governor Suwat Promsuwan and others.

“It never occurred to me, even in my dreams, that I would attend a working meeting at parliament. The next step will be to get out and plant the trees. I will have to ask everyone to give me a hand,’’ Joeyboy said in the post.

The rapper, who is also CEO of the Gancore Club music label, attracted public attention after he offered to donate 600,000 baht to support reforestation projects in Nan.

His initiative followed the publication on social media of photos showing denuded peaks in the northern province in an area where there should have been watershed forests.

“With actors, singers and celebrities helping campaigns to regrow forests in every province in Thailand, we may have a better chance to succeed. Kudos to you,” a user named Apple wrote in response to Joeyboy’s post, which drew thousands of comments.

Many people expressed concern about who will take care of the replanted forest.

“We would like people who live there to take care of the forest and to enjoy the yields from it as well,” the singer replied.
