Ill teacher wows net

-

The story of Watchara “Khru Lek” Nadee, a teacher who continues to work despite having a massive tumour on his shoulder, has triggered an outpouring of sympathy and support from net users.

The moving story of Khru (teacher) Lek has been making the rounds on social media since it was shared by director-actor, rescue volunteer and philanthropist Bin Bunluerit and his twin brother Ekapun this week.

Bin posted several photos of Khru Lek and wrote the 49-year-old has been carrying around the tumour weighing over 10 kilogrammes for about a year, but is still teaching mechanics to students at N-Tech, in Nakhon Sawan.

The actor said Khru Lek can withdraw a maximum of 100,000 baht from the Private Teacher Aid Fund per year, but treating his condition costs more than 300,000 baht. Khru Lek’s monthly salary is 16,000 baht, and he looks after himself using only over-the-counter medication.

“Every time Khru Lek visits his paralysed 74-year-old mother he covers up the tumour with a piece of cloth, because he doesn’t want her to be worried about it,’’ Bin wrote.

The teacher has no wife and no children to look after him, but his pupils continue giving him moral support.

Bin and his TV programme Mit Rak Banluerit (Friends of the Banluerit), which reports on the living conditions of the elderly and poor, donated 30,000 baht to Khru Lek.
