Bangkok Utd undone by late own goal

- TOR CHITTINAND

High-flying Bangkok United were brought down to earth by lowly Navy who won 1-0 in the Thai League last night.

Bangkok United captain Vittaya Mudlum sent the ball into his own net five minutes from time to give hosts Navy a crucial win in their fight for survival.

Bangkok United midfielder Mario Gjurovski started on the bench due to a slight injury. Although he played in the second half, he made little impact.

After falling behind, Bangkok United threw everything at Navy but squandered several good chances.

Champions Buriram United’s unconvincing run continued as they raced to a 2-0 lead only for hosts Osotspa to rally for a 2-2 draw.

Andres Tunez and Supachoke Sarachart gave Buriram a 2-0 advantage inside the first 23 minutes.

However, Anthony Komenan cut the deficit in the 28th minute and Sabney Khoetage scored the equaliser in the 62nd minute.

At Khao Plong Stadium, hosts Chainat ended their winless run with a 3-1 victory over BBCU.

Noppol Putsorn opened the scoring for BBCU in the 25th minute but Chainat fought back with two goals from Wesley Alex and the other from Renan da Silva in the second half.

In yesterday’s other matches, BEC Tero Sasana lost 2-1 to Pattaya United; Ratchaburi drew 0-0 with Chonburi; Nakhon Ratchasima lost 4-0 to Chiang Rai United; and Bangkok Glass defeated Si Sa Ket 3-1.
