MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Today, the Bangkok Post, this country’s oldest newspaper and leading English-language daily, celebrates another key milestone — its 70th anniversary. Any newspaper cannot exist, let alone thrive and continue publishing for 70 years, without the firm support of its readers, advertisers, distributors, staff and news sources.
From our humble beginnings of publishing just four pages in black and white on Aug 1, 1946, we have grown into a multi-sectioned newspaper in full colour providing comprehensive coverage to satisfy the wide-ranging needs of our readers for news, analysis, commentaries, information and entertainment.
I believe our newspaper is recognised at home and abroad as an authoritative source of news and information about Thailand and Southeast Asia. The Bangkok
Post’s current position reflects Post Publishing’s mission statement that we are committed to being the best in the business of news and information in Thailand and the region.
For the past 70 years, the Bangkok Post has adhered to the basic principles of our founders. The newspaper strives to report news in a fair and balanced manner. Our editorials aim to reflect differing views on any issue, but we will take a stand. Our commentaries are aimed at inspiring debate and discussion.
The Bangkok Post does not have an agenda and its primary role is to serve Thai society. When we make a mistake, we will correct it. All these principles are ingrained in our DNA from founders to the present and the future.
Over the past decade, the Bangkok Post has expanded its services beyond the printed word to include online and
digital. We now have more readers of our content from across the globe viewing our website, mobile application and Facebook. And our plan is to enhance our services in a fast-changing digital world.
Apart from our flagship newspaper, Post Publishing has expanded, especially over the past decade. We also publish Post Today, a leading Thai-language business daily as well as M2F (Monday to Friday), the city’s first and leading free mass-circulation newspaper in the Thai language.
The company also has a strong stable of magazines with popular titles including Elle, Elle Décor, Marie Claire,
Cleo, Elle Men, Forbes, Science Illustrated and Cycling Plus. The newspapers and magazines, as well as their online publications and our commercial and book operations, comprise what we call the Post Group.
Clearly, the challenge for the Post Group is adapting to the continuing and rapidly changing media landscape. More and more Thais are reading and viewing content online and digitally. But we still firmly believe our printed media, whether newspapers or magazines, provide a rock-solid foundation to build a promising future. While today marks the 70th anniversary of the Bang
kok Post as a trusted newspaper, it is also a turning point for the Post Group as we embark on a new journey in the digital era.
On behalf of our shareholders, the board of directors, management and staff, I would like to reiterate again our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all our readers, advertisers, distributors and business partners for your support in the last seven decades. We look forward to serving you all and Thai society for the next seven decades and more.
