An evening of jazz
Following the success of its debut performance last year, the enchanting “That’s Entertainment” concert will return to The Sukosol Hotel, Si Ayutthaya Road, for three evenings from Aug 18-20.
Held to celebrate HM the Queen’s 84th birthday, the second edition of the charity concert will once again put the spotlight on Kamala Sukosol, Thailand’s first lady of jazz and swing, who will bring together some of her favourite performances spanning musical genres, crossing cultural divides and bridging generations.
Joining her on stage will be her extraordinary family of entertainers — daughter Marisa and two sons Sukie and Noi Krissada, as well as her granddaughter Natalia and eight-year-old grandson Finnegan.
This year’s repertoire contains memorable hits from Broadway to Hollywood and from jazz to rock and pop, allowing the audiences to tap their feet to performances from the musical A Chorus (one of Broadway’s longest running shows) and sing along with blockbuster hits from Adele, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez. Also, jazz lovers will be treated to classics celebrating 100 years of Frank Sinatra and Edith Piaf, along with a heartfelt tribute to rock and pop icons David Bowie and Prince.
Other highlights will include the premiere of Noi’s newest, self-written song The Grand Finale performed as a duet with his mother, Natalia’s very special dance interpretation of Kamala’s hit song Live & Learn, as well as The Bare Necessities from Disney’s The Jungle Book performed by Finnegan, his father Noi and Natalia.
Bangkok’s finest Big Band orchestra under the direction of Piti Kayoonpan will be providing background music on all three evenings. The concert will also feature regular special guest Dolchai Boonyaratavej, the beautiful dancing of the talented students from the Aree School of Dance Arts, a chorus group conducted by Tanee Poonsuwan and American guest performer Scott Spivey, who specialises in ballet and tap.
The Aug 18 and 20 shows will start at 8pm with tickets priced at 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 baht (500 baht for students) and the gala dinner performance on Aug 19 will start at 7pm with tickets priced at 40,000 and 45,000 baht per table of 10.
All proceeds will be donated to the Princess Sirindhorn Craniofacial Center to provide care to underprivileged Thai children affected by severe facial deformities.
