To celebrate General Prem Tinsulanonda’s 96th birthday, the Yontararak family will present a special concert titled “Music From Heaven” at Sala Sudasiri Sobha, Lat Phrao 41, on Saturday at 4pm. The concert will repeat on Sunday and is by invitation only.

The evening programme will feature 10 original compositions by Gen Prem, including Kae Fan, Klin Nang, Song Rao, Tai Saeng Chan, Khid Theung Ther and Ngao Chai — all arranged by piano virtuoso Nat Yontararak. The arrangements are for piano solos, piano four-hands/duets, two-pianos, two-pianos eight hands and piano and harp.

The Privy Council president and statesman started composing in 2002 and has so far finished almost 200 songs — many of which are patriotic, lyrical and romantic.

Thanks to his interest in music, he has been actively involved in many charity works including Prem Foundation to support young musicians with financial difficulties. With his support, Sala Sudasiri Sobha had the opportunity to host a concert by the Angklung ensemble of Anusan Sunthon School of the Deaf last November.

Gen Prem’s signature and motto, “One must return debt of gratitude to the Land”, has inspired Nat to arrange his music for piano in order to promote Thai music among Thai classical musicians. This concert is a pre-launch of a CD compilation of Gen Prem’s compositions arranged by Nat and performed by the Yontararak family. It will be accompanied by music scores of all the pieces for educational purposes.

Tickets cost 700 baht, including a reception. Proceeds will go to Sala Sudasiri Sobha Funds for Young Thai Talents.
