BASE BRINGS DATA INTO THE MIX FOR A WORKOUT LIKE NO OTHER

- JARUPAT BURANASTIDPORN

Irecently checked out BASE’s signature group class “BASECAMP” which integrates both HIIT and strength training into each of their circuit-style stations. Getting the right balance between the two means burning fat, improving your cardio, building and sculpting muscles. Perfect for someone like me who enjoys the occasional run (and probably too much chocolate cake) but would probably never voluntarily pick up a dumbbell in the gym. Spending five minutes on each one, you get to push yourself to the maximum with the huge relief of knowing that you’ll never have to do a second round of that workout ever again (at least until the next session). This doesn’t mean that you’ll be doing the exact same circuit every time you come to Basecamp though as they have 10 series of workouts they recycle and update. Some exercises to expect: treadmill sprint, lunge clean and press with dumbbells, kettlebell clean, TRX one-arm row, assault bike, rowing and overhead squats. Results are recorded at every station, not only for the competitive edge but as a means of progress tracking and self-improvement. Basecamp takes away lots of cons and stigmas that group classes usually carry, like coaches struggling to tend to every one or just the mere fact that you have no baseline on how well you’re doing and whether you’re on the right track to achieving your fitness goals. And no, you needn’t worry about writing your results down after the session. They’ll email you an excel sheet of all your results, so you’ll know exactly what to aim for the next time you’re at BASE. The one-hour class (surprisingly) went by rather swiftly but judging by the amount of sweat I’d left on the floor, I was ready to sit my wobbly legs down and do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day. The workout; tough. Coaches; motivating. Atmosphere; feel-good vibes all around. Here’s a gym I’ll definitely be heading back to. So if you happen to see a 5ft 1 woman lying on the floor, drenched in sweat and gasping for air — that’s probably me. Come say hi. BASE is located at Noble Remix, Sukhumvit Soi 36.
