ITALIAN BANDLEADER BRINGS TALENTS TO CHULALONGKORN

-

Italian pianist Giovanni Guidi will bring his trio to give a Bangkok debut concert as part of the Italian Festival in Thailand 2016 at Chulalongkorn University’s Music Hall, Phaya Thai Road this Wednesday at 7pm.

Presented by the Embassy of Italy, this is a rare opportunity for Bangkok audiences to see the trio perform a repertoire of pieces from Guidi’s three latest CDs working with the prestigious German label ECM — City Of Broken Dreams (2013), This Is The Day (2015) and Ida Lupino (2016).

Guidi was awarded “Best New Talent” by Top Jazz magazine in 2007. At that time, he was only a 22-year-old music student with a musical gift that has been recognised by the Italian jazz scene. He is the youngest artist ever to release an album produced by ECM, a record label of many jazz artists such as Keith Jarret, Chick Corea, John Abercrombie and Charlie Haden. Despite his young age, he has played in several jazz festivals together with touring the world as bandleader.

Comprising bassist Francesco Ponticelli and drummer Cristiano Calcagnile, the Giovanni Guidi Trio plays a jazz of uncommon originality and reflective depth. They perform abstract ballads shimmering with tension. There is no admission fee but registration is required via www.eventbrite.com/e/ giovanni-guidi-trio-tickets-28027995489.
