Patriots receiver Floyd jailed for drink driving

Jets cornerback Revis faces five charges, turns himself over to police

-

>> NEW YORK: New England Patriots receiver Michael Floyd has pleaded guilty to drink driving and is serving a jail sentence in Arizona related to an arrest last December.

Floyd had faced seven charges in all from the Dec 12 incident in Scottsdale, Arizona, but six others were dropped on Thursday when he entered a guilty plea and began serving his sentence, according to court documents.

After being apprehended with a blood-alcohol level of .217, Floyd will spend 24 days in the county jail, serve another 96 days of house arrest, complete 30 hours of community service, attend alcohol abuse classes and pay a fine of US$5,115.

A video obtained by TMZ showed police officers trying to awaken Floyd just before 3am in his car at an intersection while the engine was running.

The NFL’s Arizona Cardinals released Floyd two days after his arrest but the Patriots claimed the five-season NFL veteran the next day.

Floyd caught a touchdown pass for the Patriots in their final game of the regular season and a nine-yard pass in a play-off victory over Houston but was inactive for New England’s American Conference final victory over Pittsburgh and the Patriots’ victory over Atlanta in Super Bowl 51 earlier this month.

Meanwhile, New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis turned himself in to police on Friday after being charged with five counts including making terroristic threats in connection with an alleged street fight.

Revis declined to answer questions from reporters as he arrived at the Pittsburgh Municipal Courts building with his lawyer Blaine Jones.

He is facing five charges comprising two counts of aggravated assault, one of conspiracy, one of robbery and one count of terroristic threats in relation to a street altercation over the weekend in south Pittsburgh.

Police said the incident took place in the early morning hours on Sunday and involved around eight men including Revis and 22-year-old Dallas Cousins and Zacheriah Jarvis, 21.

Police said the alleged assault victim was following and videotaping another man with his cellphone when an argument ensued. The victim’s phone was seized and a second man came in and attempted to get the phone back. That’s when the two men say they were punched hard enough that they both lost consciousness.

Cousins was treated in hospital for broken bones around his left eye.

Revis’ lawyer Jones said on Thursday that Revis was, “physically assaulted while at the location by a group of at least five people,” and said Revis suffered injuries in the incident without going into details.

“I would imagine that things are going to be transparent,” Jones said. “There’s nothing to hide. Darrelle is aware that he is a target. He is arguably one of the biggest stars in the National Football League, a man who has carried himself with dignity and respect.”

A Jets team spokesman indicated that team officials are aware of the incident but had no comment.

Revis, 31, is a four-time all-pro and a former Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots.

But next month he could lose his spot on the Jets, who could look to save $15.3 million against the NFL salary cap by releasing Revis.

In 10 NFL seasons, eight with the Jets, Revis has had 29 interceptions, four forced fumbles and two sacks in 140 games, all of them as a starter.

The Pittsburgh native played 15 games last season, finishing with five deflections and one interception.
