Twisting tradition
Tharinee Sribenjachote has a funky approach to revolutionising fine jewellery, from naming her collections to designing edgy rings and earrings.
Under the Twisted Tradition concept, The Confession, Trial and Error, and The Vow are the first three product lines by her jewellery house, Tharis, located on Gaysorn Village’s third floor.
The store has a contemporary interior design with a copper wall as a backdrop, which differentiates it from other fine jewellery shops. Sit on a comfy sofa to slip on a Confession ring in white, rose or yellow gold.
“The asymmetrical Confession jewellery is inspired by a halo but distorted to reflect how people, no matter how good they seem, may have a dark side. Simply put, to err is human,” explained Tharinee.
Trial and Error reflects human nature in problem-solving. Before a final solution, people often may have scribbled countless ideas on a note pad that often ends up as a pile of crumpled paper in the bin.
“There’s an aesthetic appeal in the crumpled paper that has been translated into folds and wrinkles on precious metal such as platinum, adorned with gemstones for the Trial and Error jewellery designs,” she said.
The Vow’s design concept is thought-provoking in defining love, which has couples going through good and bad times, in sickness and in health, rather than enjoying smooth matrimony.
The contemporary jewellery pieces represent a mutual relationship, with rings and bracelets fashioned in seamless objects symbolising the commitment of two lovers.
“Couples can choose understated yet elegant wedding bands from The Vow collection,” she said. “Overall, Tharis focuses on designing everyday-wear fine jewellery rather than statement pieces.”
People often take the first step in buying fine jewellery with a wedding ring, observed Tharinee. But as costume jewellery has become outrageously expensive, she encourages buying the real thing, instead.
“You may wear fashionable costume jewellery for three to four months then it becomes a neglected piece in the jewellery box. While Tharis contemporary designs come with a twist, they are timeless and can be passed on to the next generation,” she added.
